CHAPS offering free medical male circumcision

Pic: Beat Buzz: CHAPS had an awareness campaign last Saturday in Katlegong/Germiston where they circumcised Kagiso Medupe, a celebrity from the TV series, Scandal.

The Centre For HIV/AIDS Prevention Studies (CHAPS) is a NPO that was established in 2010 with the aim of improving the lives of South African males by providing free medical male circumcision.

The organisation has been working closely with the Tshwane University of Technology since 2012 to bring awareness to mainly students with campaigns that brings optimized interaction related to health.

Research has proven that circumcision reduces the chances of men contracting HIV by 60% and females also benefit when sleeping with circumcised men because it reduces their chances of contracting Cervical Cancer.

The services of the NPO are free, and transport is also provided for clients who are unable to go to the clinic.

Chaps does HIV Testing and Counselling, Patients are screened and given information on how to take care of their wounds before going for surgery.
