The Deputy Minister for Police, Mr Bongani Mkongi

The Deputy Minister for Police, Mr Bongani Mkongi, will launch the pilot phase of the newly designed Campus and School Safety and Security Training Initiative (CASSSTI) which has been developed by the Campus Safety Support Services NPC under the guidance and tutelage of the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).

The launch will take place as part of the Campus Safety Regional Indaba Series to be held on 6,10 and 12 April 2019 at the various SAPS Academies in Pretoria, Durban and Paarl respectively.

The first indaba will coincide with the 40th commemoration of Solomon Mahlangu who was hanged by the Apartheid regime on 6 April 1979 at the then Pretoria Central Prison Gallows.

During his budget vote last year, the Deputy Minister proposed for the mandatory (re)training of campus and school safety and security officers to improve their competence in dealing with incidences of campus and school safety and security.

The main purpose of the Campus and School Safety Regional Indaba Series is to discuss the state of campus and school safety in South Africa especially with regard to violent crimes including fatal stabbings and gender-based violence in school premises, as well as colleges and university campuses.
