High Profile Speakers to Address the Historic Campus Safety Summit

The Minister of Police, Mr Fikile Mbalula, will deliver the keynote address at the official opening ceremony of the historic School and Campus Safety Summit to be held on 10-14 July 2017 at the University of the Western Cape in Bellville.

During his first 100 days in office (which will end on 16 July 2017), the Minister has demonstrated a tough stance on crime in schools and campuses, the recent rape of a female student at the University of the Western Cape in Bellville and the brutal killing of a male student at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthata.

Police, Mr Bongani Mkongi, who is the convener and the champion of the School and Safety Summit in partnership with the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Mr Enver Surty, and the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Mr Mduduzi Manana.

This triumvirate of Deputy Ministers are determined to work closely to create learning institutions that are safe, non-violent, peaceful and conducive for learning, development and success.

On 11 July 2017, the three ministries will host a Campus Safety Consultative Meeting with key stakeholders in the education sector including student organizations like Congress of South African Student Organization (COSAS), South African Union of Students (SAUS) and the South African Further Education and Training Student Organization (SAFETSA).

The South African College Principal Organization (SACPO), University South Africa (USAF), Campus Protection Society of Southern Africa (CAMPROSA) and various bodies of the School Governing Associations will participate in the consultative meeting.
