I think most of us will agree that 2016 was a roller coaster ride, filled with as many ups as there were downs, filling us with exhilaration and just as much dread, and we’re all a little skeptical about the year that is 2017. I too, have no idea what the year 2017 has in store for us but I do know that the world of movie entertainment has a few tricks up its sleeve. Here’s a little sneak preview of what is to come.
The first 3 months will be filled with action, adventure, drama; some romance and let’s not forget the laughs. It will see us revisit some of our favourite worlds, old and new, with the likes of “XXX: The Return of Xander Cage” (27 January 2017) sequel of “XXX”, which is known for its thrills and action. John Wick the legendary hit man comes out of retirement in “John Wick: Chapter Two” coming out in the month of March. We will also be seeing the return of the Marvel character Logan or Wolverine, as many know him, in the action movie “Logan” (3 March 2017).

I mentioned romance because “Fifty Shades Darker” will be at cinemas just in time for Valentines Day. So if you’ve run out of ideas, be sure to book you and your partner a ticket for this trilogy, which gained a lot of popularity in 2014. Let’s not forget about the few laughs and unleashing our inner child with the animation of Batman in “The Lego Batman Movie” (17 February 2017) featuring stars like Ralph Fiennes, Michael Cera and Rosario Dawson.
King Kong enthusiasts might be happy to hear about the return of this fantastical world filled with adventure with “Kong: Skull Island” (10 March 2017) but that might not even be the most exciting return for some. Many will say that the “Power Rangers” have been played out with a lot of different versions coming out after the original in 1993 but those keen to see the film possibly re-imagined with a modern twist will be glad to know of its return at the end of March. We’re also not unfamiliar with the story of King Arthur but in case you haven’t had enough of the classic story, the feature film version will also be released at the end of March.

Scarlett Johansson is back with another Sci-fi movie, which follows the success of Lucy released in 2014, called “Ghost In The Shell” (31 March 2017). It follows the story of ‘The Major’, special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads an elite task force known as Section 9. For the Matt Damon fans you’ll be glad to hear of his return as a mercenary warrior, who is imprisoned within the Great Wall, and he discovers the mystery behind one of the greatest wonders of the world, in “The Great Wall” (17 February 2017).
I think we can all agree that even though we are not sure of what 2017 will hold, the movie scene will definitely not disappoint us. Rest assured, I will be keeping you updated with detailed reviews as the year progresses so stay tuned to this column.
