The Tshwane University of technology (TUT) management says they were taken by surprise by student protests today at the the Pretoria West Campus.
The protests were sparked by TUT cancellation of its lease with private accommodation used by students, leaving students stranded.
Students are also protesting due to their dissatisfaction with NSFAS system which they say is slow to approve the majority of students who depend on the facility.
TUT Professor Stanley said even though they were aware of the dissatisfaction, management was taken by surprise because no official communication came from the Student Representation Council (SRC).
“There is a procedure to lodge complaints and we expected students to lodge their dissatisfaction with the SRC and that did not happen,” said Pro. Makhula.
A meeting is planned by the SRC tomorrow after which more information will follow.
